I got into board games to try to offer up a different night of fun. My playgroup mainly plays MTG, but at its current state that game has become toxic with the constant arms races and salty bad beets. Wow, thank you for the detailed reply! I did not expect to get something this complete as far as a response!Ĭonsidering all of etherfield’s annoying bugs, would you suggest TG over it overall? I have been put in a bit of a pickle, to be honest.

Story - etherfields is told in short cryptic messages and doesn’t have a full narrative arc, tainted grail is a masterwork in story telling unrivaled in its mechanical branching complexity Etherfields uses that slog to prep your deck and cards before the main course meal, but people also are saying they don’t like having to fight repetitive small things in order to prep for the larger things tg has heavy survival mechanics that can be a slog if you fight against them, as they are there to limit choices and push you forward. Gameplay - etherfields is snappier then tainted grail, but has more down time if you’re deck building between rounds. You won’t see most the rules you learn for 5 hours, leaving you feeling frustrated and disjointed as you constantly refrence and double check things. You’ll be doing a demo light game that will teach you rules but also require some of the rulebook, while getting new rules from cards.
#ETHERFIELDS KICKSTARTER HOW TO#
Rulebook - pandemic taught us how to do a rulebook for a legacy game, and AR decided to throw that all away and teach you both more and less then you need to know in a jumbled unsorted mess.

The board - the board is an unusable mess, truely one of the worst things I’ve seen a publisher do, and you’ll be heaping components and trying to lay things on a bare table which is complicated because etherfields demands cards to be overlapped precisely. Minis - etherfields marks AR as being one of the best minature producers in kickstarter, they’re even doing custom sculpted bases now. Publishers use these marks when books are returned to them.So there’s a bit to unpack with etherfields so I’ll do a breakdown by area Remainder Mark - A remainder mark is usually a small black line or dot written with a felt tip pen or Sharpie on the top, bottom, side page edges and sometimes on the UPC symbol on the back of the book.If excessively worn, they will be marked as "tray worn." Flat trays for SPI games are not graded, and have the usual problems. If excessively worn, they will be marked as "card worn." The cardboard backing of miniature packs is not graded. In most cases, boxed games and box sets do not come with dice.Due to the nature of loose counters, if a game is unplayable it may be returned for a refund of the purchase price. Boardgame counters are punched, unless noted.Major defects and/or missing components are noted separately.Example, EX+ is an item between Excellent and Near Mint condition. A "plus" sign indicates that an item is close to the next highest condition. When only one condition is listed, then the box and contents are in the same condition.
